    • Die Aktivität von Satellitenzellen

Die Aktivität von Satellitenzellen - welche in Sachen Hypertrophie eine der Hauptrollen einnimmt - wird oft mit Muskelschäden in Verbindung gebracht.

      Hier jedoch:
"It's interesting that the satellite cell activation response to exercise is increased following resistance training, given that the muscle damage rapidly goes down during a training program (even when you do a progressive training program)."

A new study shows increased satellite cell activation following 16 weeks of resistance exercise training in young men.
Satellite cells are muscle stems cells. They are activated after an exercise bout and involved in muscle repair and fiber remodeling. The current study shows they are activated more after 16 weeks of resistance exercise training, than after a single bout of resistance exercise in untrained subjects.
This was possibly related to the increased muscle fiber capillarization that was present after the 16 weeks of training. Satellite cells respond to a variety of growth factors, including several from the circulation. Increased muscle fiber capillarization would result in better access of these growth factors to the satellite cells.
It's interesting that the satellite cell activation response to exercise is increased following resistance training, given that the muscle damage rapidly goes down during a training program (even when you do a progressive training program).
We are slowly starting to get more pieces of information on how various processes of the adaptive response to resistance exercise change after regular training:
      - muscle damage goes down
      - muscle protein synthesis goes down
      - muscle protein synthesis corrected for muscle damage stays the same
      - satellite cell activation goes up.
But we still don't really know what causes the diminished muscle mass gains during training in more trained subjects. This study was 16 weeks, which is longer than the other processes that have been studied so far. What happens after that is unclear.
